Portrait photography is a style of photography that portrays human subjects. Portrait photography has been around since the dawn of photography, when Louis Daguerre invented the daguerreotype in 1839. That same year Robert Cornelius aimed the camera at himself and took what is widely believed to be the first self portrait photograph ever, laying the groundwork for portrait photography to emerge as its own art form.

Portraits can be very expressive and magical. A portrait has the ability to tell a story. It tells the story of a time and place. It can express a story about the culture around where it was taken. It can even tell a story about an experience. It is amazing all the things that can be learned from a portrait.
